A Pot Full of Wishes and Beyond…

I came out of live performance hibernation to play the 7th Annual A Pot Full of Wishes! fundraiser last month. The event raised over $17,000 for the  Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, was hosted by theGreater Boston Chi Omega Alumnae Chapter and was held at Sweet Caroline’s in Boston’s historic Fenway.

I only got a few weeks notice, so I spent them preparing 15 songs with the help of my friend, Andrew Burek. Andrew and I have played together in the past so working up the songs for the event came naturally.

In addition to the list of covers and originals, we also learned a couple of songs to play with Ingrid Gerdes. Ingrid has performed at the event before, but her band wasn’t able to make it this  year. We met her at last year’s event but have never played with Ingrid. After a 5 minute rehearsal before the event, in a back hallway between kegs and people looking for the restroom, we were ready. Andrew and I were both happy to have performed with Ingrid.

Here’s the set list we performed:

Set 1:
I Feel Good Again (Junior Kimbrough)
Lonely Boy (The Black Keys)
Rodeo Clowns (Jack Johnson)
Back Seat (Me)
Smile Like You Mean It (The Killers)
Mary Jane’s Last Dance (Tom Petty)
Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Queen)
It Was Just Two Words (Me)

Set 2:
Shed (Ingrid Gerdes)
Rolling In the Deep (Adele with Ingrid Gerdes)
Mr. Brightside (The Killers)
Life on a Chain (Pete Yorn)
Island in the Sun (Weezer)
Don’t Take Me Tonight (Me)
Gimme Sympathy (Metric)
American Girl (Tom Petty)

The event was a success thanks to the hard work of the local Chi Omega chapter. Over 200 people attended and participated in the silent auction, raffle, and grab bag. All of the money raised went directly to grant the wishes of two children with life-threatening illnesses. Andrew and I made it through both sets without any major hiccups and look forward to future performances together!

As for the future… I will be graduating from law school this May and studying for the bar for through July. Even with all that’s been going on, I’ve managed to find some time to record and hope to share new and completely different material over the next few months months.
